Kelly Consulting Welcomes Tom Mackey

Kelly Consulting, LLC is pleased to welcome Tom Mackey as Construction Manager. Tom brings over 25 years of experience in construction, including working as a VDOT, TDOT, NCDOT, WVDOT, and SCDOT pre-qualified contractor on roadway, structure, and bridge projects for 19 years. Recently, Tom worked as Senior Construction Specialist for the Coalfields Expressway and Route 460 Connector Phase I projects in Buchanan County, Virginia.  Tom will continue his work on the Coalfields Expressway projects as Construction Manager for the Route 460 Connector Phase II construction. Rice Associates to Utilize Drones to Enhance Services

Rice Associates and Navigator CS, LLC have announced the formation of a partnership that will allow Rice to utilize Navigator’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), commonly known as drones, to enhance its surveying and photogrammetry capabilities. “We are excited about the possibilities that drone technology has to offer,” said Charlie Rice, President of Rice Associates, Inc. “By teaming up with Navigator CS, we will be able to safely, quickly, efficiently, and economically obtain aerial imaging that supports our surveying and mapping projects, especially in applications where the operational features of drones make them the technology of choice.”

Otey Dudley Retires

After 42 years of service to E. Dillon & Company, Otey Dudley has retired.  Otey has transitioned the role of President and COO to Mark Norden, and will continue to serve in a consulting capacity as needed.  Otey served as President of the Virginia Aggregates Association and served on the VTCA Board of Directors.

Chris Young, PE Joins JMT

Johnson, Mirmiran and Thompson is pleased to announce the hiring of Christopher Young, PE as an Associate in the Richmond Highways group. Chris has eight years of experience in transportation projects throughout Virginia with a concentration in projects involving geometric highway design, maintenance of traffic, field investigations, utility relocation design and coordination, right-of-way acquisition, quality control review, public involvement, and the development of specifications and estimates.  He holds a degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University.

Terra Site Constructors, an innovative provider of solutions for construction projects in the mid-Atlantic Region, announces the appointment of Jerry McNeal as Senior Project Manager and Michael Hilberath and Raymond Case as Superintendents.

McNeal has over 30 years of experience specifically focused on installation of sound barriers, retaining walls, and precast concrete structures.  In this leadership role, he will oversee office and field staff on specific projects and will be responsible for successful delivery of those assignments.

Hilberath comes to the firm with more than 30 years of experience in managing and supervising the construction of MSE, sound and soil nail retaining walls.  He will plan, direct and coordinate the activities of designated projects, using safety guidelines to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished on time and on budget.

Case has 25 plus years of experience in the construction of engineered earth structures and foundations for buildings, roadways, and bridges.  He will plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of designated projects, using safety guidelines to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished on time and on budget.

VTCA Associate Scholarship Winners Announced

The VTCA Associate Leadership Committee presents two scholarships each year to deserving young men and women whose parents work for a VTCA member firm.  One scholarship is funded by contributions from VTCA Associate members and one is funded by Rutherfoord.  The 2015 Associate Scholarship winners were announced at the VTCA Annual Meeting.  The 2015 winners are Kelsey Creech and Holden Lipscomb.  Both have proven themselves as motivated leaders, academically strong, and active in their schools and communities.  Kelsey will attend the College of William and Mary in the fall.  Holden will attend the University of Virginia.  Coincidentally, the parents of both of these winners are with Branscome, Inc. Congratulations to Kelsey and Holden.

The Lane Construction Corp. Named ENR MidAtlantic Region Contractor of the Year

The Lane Construction Corporation has been named the 2015 MidAtlantic Region Contractor of the Year by Engineering News-Record (ENR).  The Region includes Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.  Lane’s strategy to pursue large P3 transportation infrastructure projects landed the company on some of the largest highway projects in the region.  Following the completion of the $2-billion 495 Express Lanes project in the Virginia suburbs outside of Washington, the team of Fluor-Lane set its focus on the adjacent 95 Express Lanes project. The $1-billion 29-mile project expanded and extended existing HOV lanes along one of the busiest corridors in the region. The 29-month-long project was completed on time with more than 4 million work-hours logged and no lost time accidents.

Wagman’s Dinwidde Office Wins “Can”struction Contest Benefitting Food Banks

July 17, 2015

Wagman, Inc. has sponsored its first “Can”struction contest.  Offices and jobsites were broken into teams and invited to collect goods for local food banks.  Photos of the “can”struction sculptures were featured on Facebook and on the company intranet and people were invited to vote for their favorite sculpture. “The Bridge,” built by a team from the Dinwiddie office, was the winner.  The office collected 239 pounds of food which was donated to the Dinwiddie County Relief Program.
